MARRAKECH - ATLAS MOUNTAINS - AIT BENHADDOU - OUARZAZAT - DRAA VALLEY - ZAGORA DESERT
Your 2-day Marrakech to Zagora desert tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel or riad around 08:00 AM. We drive through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260m altitude). Along the way, you will pass charming Berber villages, where locals live in traditional clay houses surrounded by terraced fields.
Several stops will be made throughout the journey to enjoy panoramic views, take stunning pictures, sip fresh mint tea or Moroccan coffee, use restrooms, and stretch your legs with a short walk.
By late morning, we arrive at the legendary Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This fortified village is world-famous for its unique architecture and as a filming location for Hollywood productions like Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones. You will have free time to explore with a local guide who will take you inside the kasbah to discover its history and secrets.
After the visit, enjoy a delicious Moroccan lunch either in Ait Benhaddou or in Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa.” Then, we continue driving past the Anti-Atlas Mountains and the historical village of Agdez, which was once an important stop for the ancient trade caravans traveling across the Sahara.
Next, we follow the lush Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river valley and home to one of the largest palm groves in the country, with hundreds of thousands of date palms stretching for miles. This picturesque valley is dotted with kasbahs and Berber villages, offering plenty of photo opportunities.
In the late afternoon, we arrive at the Zagora Desert, where your camel trekking adventure begins. Ride your camel across the dunes while watching a magical Sahara sunset. Afterward, head to your luxury or standard desert camp, where you’ll enjoy Moroccan hospitality, traditional dinner, and live Berber drumming under the star-filled sky. Overnight in a private tent at the camp.
ZAGORA DESERT - SUNRISE CAMEL RIDE - DRAA VALLEY - OUARZAZATE - MARRAKECH
Wake up early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the Zagora desert dunes. After a hearty breakfast, ride your camel back and meet your driver.
We retrace our way through the Draa Valley, with time for short stops to capture more pictures of the palm groves and landscapes. On the return journey, we pass once again through Ouarzazate, where you can optionally visit the Kasbah of Taourirt or simply enjoy a coffee break before continuing.
Finally, we cross the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka pass and reach Marrakech by late afternoon, where your unforgettable 2-day Sahara tour to Zagora Desert ends with a drop-off at your hotel or riad.
